Con Amore, The Italian History of Fort Edward, documents the growth of the Italian community of Fort Edward, a small community located on the Hudson River in upstate New York, from the arrival of the first Italian in 1875. It follows the intense growth of the community from the from the 1890’s through the late 1920’s. It continues through the Great Depression and through World War II, ending in 1945.
Con Amore is divided into three sections: a narrative, followed by a section with scores of photographs and text, and a third section of solid genealogy – 43 densely packed pages with 80 families, tracing their origins (in most cases) to the original Italian towns. The book contains firsthand personal reminiscences of first and second generation Italians, with remembrances of huge garden, homemade wine and families filled with love. The book follows the stories of immigrant families whose children and grandchildren would become the political and social leaders of their new community.
Con Amore is $22.50 (plus tax, where applicable); postage extra. Further information? Write: Fort Edward Historical Association, Inc.; PO Box 106; 22-29 Broadway; Fort Edward, New York 12828.
