A Brief History of Coro d'Italia

The Coro d'Italia (Italian Chorus) was founded in New York City in 1932 by noted educators Leonard Covello and Elba Farabegoli. The troupe performed throughout the tri-state area for decades. After 70 years in Manhattan, Coro d'Italia is now based in northern New Jersey. It features a repertoire of traditional songs, dances and costumes from all the regions of Italy. Rehersals are held in Montclair and in Newark. Performers of all ages are invited to join in. There is also a new program, Bambini d'Italia, for children ages 3-11.

The Scuola d'Italia (Italian School) offers language and cultural enrichment classes for children from nursery school through 11 years of age.

The Museo d'Italia (Italian Museum)is in the process of gathering collections! People are sending fabulous photographs, narratives, and objects! If you have something to share please let us know. Help us tell our Italian American story. We have collected many wonderful items to share so far and we're interested in your story! In particular we are looking for items that may have been found in a typical Italian home from the 1900s to the 1950s. We also need people to help us sort through donations, and mount displays, if you live in the tri-state area. For additional information about any of these activities please email Marylou Romano or call: (973) 744-7653.
