The Brockton blockbuster.
The saying "the great ones leave no doubt" certainly still applies to Rocky Marciano.
None of "The Rock's" opponents ever disputed who was the better man. In fact Marciano is
the only champion in history never to have lost a fight. Although he only stood at 5'10''
and weighed 185 pounds he was arguably inch-for-inch and pound-for-pound the hardest hiitting
fighter of all time. Marciano won the title from Jersey Joe Walcott in September 1952.
Behind on points he kayoed Walcott in the 13th round with the most famous knock out punch in
history (a punch Marciano called "Susie Que"). He defended his crown 6 times and in 1956
shortly after his 9th round KO of Archie Moore retired at the age of 32. Unlike most
champions Marciano resisted comeback offers and enjoyed retirement. He died in a plane crash
in 1969 at age 45.
